I heard recently about 24 hour tanning salons around LA and since I wasn’t sure where they were located, I decided to type the keywords “24 hour tanning” into a Google search. At the top of the list I found a tanning salon open 24 hours a day via a special “key” entrance in Ambridge, Pennsylvania called none other than, 24 Hour Tanning! How clever! If you want a good giggle, just check out their website–it’s full of cheesy music, cheesy girls, and the ultimate in cheese commercial along with outtakes (watch below). I’m not sure how, but this salon, in a town I’ve never heard of in Pennsylvania, made it to the top of the 24 hour tanning salon list!
I was skeptical about 24 tanning because, as a realist, I thought to myself who would want to get a tan at four in the morning?! But apparently, there’s a market for this stuff because there appears to be at least one 24 hour tanning salon in every major city (and as in the case of 24 Hour Tanning even small towns as well). New York, Tulsa, and Denver all have some as well as countless other cities across the US. The New Yorker Observer put out a rather interesting article discussing the popularity of these “stay awake and bake” chains that are opening up across New York. It seems that even though many patrons do not frequent the salons late night, just the fact that they are available 24/7 makes them convenient and saves the customer worry about whether or not the salon is open. Sounds like some peculiar logic to me, but it seems to work for the owners of these baking stations. So for all you pale folks out there, rest assured you can get tan anytime at one of the many 24 hour tanning salons out there.
Here’s that incredibly cheesy low-budget commerical for 24 Hour Tanning that I was talking about earlier. They’ve actually made a couple of these which can be viewed on their website. I am no advocate of tanning salons (not even 24 hour ones) but this is just too funny and bizarre to keep to myself. And in case you’re wondering, it’s not just you–the sound from the brunette really is missing.
