When I discovered this diner/coffeehouse/bar located right across from the Woodley Park Zoo, I was really excited and felt like making a trip to DC just to check it out! Similar to Kramerbooks and Afterwords Cafe, Open City caters to the late-night crowd that won’t just settle for greasy burgers and fries at 4am. They actually offer gourmet coffee, simple yet affordable comfort food, and an assortment of wines and draught microbrews (although I’m sure they can’t serve alcohol 24 hours a day…boo). The food here gets rave reviews (I know I want to try the mussels served three ways), but the service seems to be hit or miss, even though the Open City philosophy is to create a “third place” where visitors can have a comfortable place to chill at away from home. I guess it’s tough to offer so many good things at once, but at least their heart is in the right place.

Great post! How do you go about thinking of things to write about? I often suffer from writers block. How do you power through it?
Open City is open from 6 am to midnight weekdays and 1 am weekends, not 24 hours. The Diner in Adams Morgan is 24 hours.
Today I decided that I need to be purchasing a coffee bean grinder, but there are so many different things to take into consideration, many of which I have never even heard of before, such as: How long does it take to grind the coffee beans? Can I grind a lot of beans at one time? Is the coffee grinder electric or manual? Is the coffee grinder a space saver? How many coarness levels does the grinder have, ie; fine, ultrafine or coarse, medium coarseness. How was the cost of a grinder? What is difference in the most expensive grinder to the less expensive grinders? Can you use any flavor of coffee to grind? Does the coffee bean grinder come attached to a coffee maker? Will the coffee grinder have a any type of timer- along with a automatic shut off?

Hey – good blog, just looking about some blogs, seems a pretty good platform you are utilizing. I’m presently making use of WordPress for a few of my sites but looking to alter 1 of them more than to a platform similar to yours as being a trial run. Anything in particular you would recommend about it?
