Dogs need pampering just like the rest of us.

Dogs need pampering just like the rest of us.

What better way to treat your best furry friend (sorry kitties, canines only) than with luxury  accomodations and doggie “Spaw” at Pooch Hotel in Chi-town.  There are two locations serving dogs of all varieties 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The Lincoln Park location boasts a 10,000 square ft. facility that houses tempered glass hotel suites, an indoor canine lap pool, and a specially designed doggie treadmill.  Breeds and different sized dogs are even kept separate by several levels of play areas.  The West Loop facility is even larger at 20,000 sq. feet and was just renovated and opened in 2008.  Dogs are attended to by a staff of twenty around the clock and they have access to full veterinary care 24/7.  The Pooch Hotel also keeps Mother Earth in mind, with facilities utilizing 90% fluorescent bulbs, biodegradeable plastic bags, food dishes made from recycled sources, and earth friendly cleaning products.

In addition to luxury boarding, the Pooch Hotel offers a variety of doggie services such as “The Club” — a lifestyle program that provides socialization, nutrition management, and fitness training.  There’s  also dog training classes and the famous “Spaw” which lets Fido decompress with aromatherapy massage ($30 for 15 minutes…yowza!) or a “poochberry” facial for $60.  Wow, I’ve never even had a facial and yet my pet will probably get one before me (actually Leo did get a kittie facial at the vet when he had acne)!  I always have to laugh when I see these luxury dog hotels around town.  We have our very own in Los Angeles that I pass every once and awhile and wonder, how can people spend sooo much money on a dog hotel?  Do dogs really need massages, facials, and fitness training?  I mean, I’ve only ever gotten a massage twice in my whole life and I’m doing just fine.  It’s really a strange phenomenon, but I guess some people will do anything to keep their little pooches happy.

I'm a wanderer by nature, so finding late night grub, coin-operated racquetball, and slushies in the middle of the night has been a lot of fun for me. And I'm sure there's a lot of other wanderers out there who would find this information useful... so enjoy and drop me a line when you find some cool 24 hour places of your own.
